Today, we’re diving into some of the most delightful things to do in Budapest—from mouthwatering meals to stunning sights and architectural wonders that will make your jaw drop.
Why Budapest Should Be on Your Travel Radar
Budapest is a city that somehow feels both grand and cozy at the same time. Strolling along the Danube River, you’ll find a city stitched together by history and culture, with a vivacious energy that pulls you in. Whether you’re a foodie, an architecture admirer, or just someone looking to soak up the local charm, Budapest delivers on all fronts.
Iconic Sightseeing Spots That Spark Joy
- Buda Castle – Perched high on Castle Hill, this majestic palace complex offers panoramic views of the city below. Wander through the cobblestone streets, peek into museums, or just sit and watch the world go by. It’s a must-see for any visitor. From there it’s a short walk to Fisherman’s Bastion

- Fisherman’s Bastion and Matyas Church – With its fairy-tale turrets and terraces, this vantage point is perfect for postcard-worthy photos. The best part? It’s especially magical at sunrise or sunset when the city glows golden. They are right next to each other, so you can see both when you visit. Don’t forget to check out the underground medieval shop!

- Parliament Building – One of Budapest’s most recognizable landmarks, this stunning example of Gothic Revival architecture dazzles with its intricate spires and grand facade. Taking a guided tour inside reveals even more about Hungary’s history and political heritage.

Architectural Marvels That Inspire
Budapest is a showcase for architectural beauty. After all, it’s called the ‘Paris of the East’ for a reason.
- St. Stephen’s Basilica – This colossal basilica features a commanding dome you can climb for breathtaking views over the city. On the inside, the blend of neoclassical styles and gorgeous artwork will captivate you.

- Great Market Hall – Beyond a shopping spot, this market is a structural gem with its soaring ceilings and colorful roof tiles. It’s where locals and visitors alike come to sample paprika, pastries, and all things Hungarian.

- Gellért or Szecsenyi Thermal Bath – Architecture meets relaxation at this Art Nouveau masterpiece. Bathe in the warm waters while surrounded by beautifully tiled walls and stained glass, soaking in a truly vibrant atmosphere. There are both indoor and outdoor baths. My boyfriend and I visited an outdoor bath in mid-January, and the warm water made it feel like summer, even though it was snowing outside. Such a magical experience.

Thanks for joining me on this quick tour of Budapest’s fun highlights! Happy traveling!
